Matar paneer recipe, Mutter paneer masala recipe (Video Recipe)

Matar paneer recipe or mutter paneer with step by step photos and video – one of the classic combination of matar (peas) and soft paneer in tangy tomato gravy.

Matar paneer recipe is a popular curry mainly in north India. It is very common in Indian restaurants menu. There are many versions of matar paneer recipe and they differ from region to region.

Today I am sharing the best restaurant style matar paneer recipe. It is easy to prepare at home. In this recipe I have used cashew nuts instead of cream. It gives a very nice creamy texture.

This matar/ mutter paneer recipe goes well with naan, peas pulao or whole wheat naan.

Ingredients 

1 large onion, roughly chopped
2 tablespoons cashew nuts
1 tablespoon whole coriander seeds
1/2 teaspoon whole black pepper
1 inch cinnamon piece
1 clove
1 bayleaf
1 green chili
4-5 garlic clove
1 inch ginger piece
1 1/2 tablespoon mustard oil
1/2 teaspoon cumin seeds
1 1/2 cup tomato puree (from 3 large tomatoes)
1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder
1/2 teaspoon kashmiri red chili powder
1 cup boiled green peas
1 tablespoon green coriander leaves, finely chopped
Salt to taste
200 grams paneer, chopped into cubes
1 teaspoon kasoori methi
1 teaspoon sugar

Step by step matar paneer recipe

Step 1. Place a pan on medium heat and water to heat up. Add chopped onion, cashew nuts, whole coriander seeds, black pepper, cinnamon piece, clove and bayleaf.
Let the ingredients boil for 10 minutes.

Notes – You can also use melon seeds (magaj seeds) instead of cashew nuts.

Step 2. Switch off the burner and strain the mixture. Be careful while straining as mixture is boiling hot. Put the mixture in grinder jar and add green chili, garlic cloves and ginger. Grind it to a smooth paste. Add a teaspoon water if needed.

Step 3. Place a pan on medium heat. Add oil to heat up. Add cumin seeds to crackle then add asafoetida.

Step 4. Add onion cashew paste prepared in step 2. in pan. Saute for about 5 minutes till the paste leaves oil or start gathering together.

Step 5. Add tomato puree and cook for next 4 minutes.

Step 6. Add red chili powder and turmeric powder. Saute for a minute.

Note – If want to make matar paneer recipe bit spicy add 1/2 teaspoon of garam masala in this step. It’s optional.

Step 7. Add water to masala mixture. I added 1 cup.
Let the boil come.
Then add boiled green peas , green coriander leaves and salt to taste. Mix and saute.

Step 8. Add paneer cubes and mix.

Step 9. Add kasoori methi and sugar. Mix it and switch off the burner. Delicious matar paneer is ready to serve.
