Mango lassi with mango pulp

Mango lassi with mango pulp is a refreshing drink prepared from yogurt and sweet mango. It is very popular in India and also in other countries. The taste and richness of mango lassi depends on the quality of mango and yogurt used.

To make lassi I always choose Alphonso variety of mango. If this variety is not available at your place, don’t worry you can pick any mango that is ripe and plump. Another key point while choosing mango is by smelling. The mango you are picking up should be fragrant. If fresh mango is not available, you can use canned mango pulp also but be sure that you are using good quality mango pulp like kesar mango or alphonso.

In this mango lassi recipe, I have used full fat yogurt because I want that richness and creaminess in my lassi. Some people even top lassi with extra cream while serving it. If you want to make it low calorie use low fat yogurt and also use honey in place of sugar. Some times mangoes are sweet enough so don’t need to add sugar and make it diabetic friendly.

For adding aroma and flavour, people generally add few drops of rose water. I love aroma of kewra essence which is easily available in any Indian groceries, so I used it instead of rose water.

I also add a pinch of cardamom powder to the drink which further enhances the aroma and taste, however it is an optional ingredient.

If you like to add little sharpness to mango Lassi, you can add 6-7 drops freshly-squeezed lemon. This is totally optional. Some people like and some don’t.

Course: Dessert
Cuisine: Indian
Servings: 2 Servings
Author: Rachna's Kitchen
Ingredients
  • 3/4 cup plain low-fat yogurt or full fat yogurt
  • 1 cup fresh mango pulp
  • 1 1/2 tablespoons sugar or adjust to taste
  • 1/4 teaspoon cardamom powder optional
  • 1 teaspoon rose water or 7-8 drops of Kewra water optional
  • 3 ice cubes
  • Glazed cherries chopped for garnish(optional)
Instructions
  1. Peel the mango and take the mango flesh out.
  2. Put mango flesh and sugar in a blender. Blend it till you get smooth puree. It will take around 1 or 2 minutes.
  3. Add rose water or kewra water. I used kewra as I love to use it in my recipes. Add cardamom powder and ice cubes. Blend for 30 seconds or till everything combines well.
  4. Mango Lassi is ready. The texture of this Lassi is bit thick and creamy. But if you need to thin it slightly, add milk and whizz up.
  5. Pour mango Lassi in glasses and garnish with glazed cherry. Serve it chilled.

      Hi Jon,
There is another flavouring comes in market called rose essence which can be used to substitute for kewra or rose water. You can make this mango lassi without kewra water and rose water. It is optional. Either way it will taste delicious.
      Thanks
